Gender Pay Gap Discussion on Prime Time
Elizabeth Ryan, a partner in our Employment Law & Benefits team, appeared on RTE’s Prime Time programme on 1 December to discuss gender pay gap reporting in Ireland.
Organisations with more than 250 employees are required to report on their gender pay gaps this month.
Elizabeth commented: “There is a legal obligation on employers to pay males and females the same rate of pay where they are doing equal work. That’s equal pay. The concept of gender pay gap is different, because what the gender pay gap is really all about is representation of females at senior roles in organisations, which usually attract a higher rate of pay, and their ability to earn as much as their male counterparts within an organisation.”
Gillian Harford, Country Executive, 30% Club Ireland and Mary Connaughton, Director, Chartered Institute of Personnel & Development (CIPD) Ireland, also contributed to the discussion.
